H4 PicoNAS Power Button Update: Better Placement, Cleaner Design
Quick update from the PicoCluster development team! We've been refining the H4 PicoNAS design based on real-world testing, and we've made a small but important change to the power button placement that we're excited to share.
The Power Button Problem
During our beta testing phase, we discovered that the original rear-mounted power button placement was creating clearance issues with cable management. When fully loaded with M.2 drives and all cables connected, accessing the power button became awkward and sometimes required partial cable disconnection.
The Solution: Left Side Placement
What Changed:
- Power button moved from rear panel to left side of case
- New integrated wire guide keeps power button wiring contained
- Improved accessibility without interfering with cable management
- Cleaner overall aesthetic with organized internal routing
The left side placement gives you easy access to power the system on/off while keeping all your storage and network cables neatly routed. No more cable gymnastics just to restart your NAS!
Wire Management Enhancement
Along with the button relocation, we added a simple wire guide feature to the internal case design. This keeps the power button wiring from floating around inside the case and potentially interfering with airflow or other components.
Benefits:
- Cleaner internal layout
- Better airflow management
- Reduced risk of wire damage during maintenance
- More professional appearance
Current Status
This update is now part of our standard H4 PicoNAS design. All beta units moving forward will include the left-side power button placement and integrated wire guide. We're also updating our 3D print files to reflect this improvement.
It's exactly these kinds of real-world refinements that make the beta testing process so valuable. Your feedback continues to shape the final product, and we appreciate everyone who's been testing these units in their home labs.
What's Next
With power button placement sorted, we're focusing on final software configuration testing and preparing for wider availability. Keep an eye out for more updates as we move toward the full release.
